Does the TalkTalk router cause problems with a Google Nest Cam?
The answer
Homes on older TalkTalk routers report weaker upload headroom, which shows up as poor camera quality rather than dropouts.

What fixes it
Check upload speed with a wired test before blaming the camera.

How the Google Nest Cam behaves on any network
Wi-Fi 4 or Wi-Fi 5 client, usually a single antenna, sending a steady video upload rather than short bursts.
- • Most outdoor models are 2.4 GHz only; newer indoor and wired models add 5 GHz.
- • Talks mainly to the manufacturer's servers, so it survives strict routers well — but live view needs a steady upload, not just a good signal bar.

What your router needs to be doing
- • A 2.4 GHz network the camera can see
- • Enough upload speed for the number of cameras you own
- • No client isolation on the main network
If it still isn't right
- • Check the signal where the gadget actually lives, not where you're standing.
- • Move the router off the floor and out of any cupboard before buying anything.
- • Put the gadget and your phone on the same Wi-Fi name.
- • Restart the gadget before the router — it is quicker and it fixes more.
- • If a plug-in extender is involved, unplug it and retest.
If the free fixes don't do it

- Deco X50 (3 pack) — The most forgiving mesh for a normal brick house. One Wi-Fi name, and it takes a network cable if you can run one. (around £180–£220)

How we keep this honest
Checked September 2026. Evidence used on this page: Public community report, Manufacturer documentation.
- • Widely reported in public forums. Treat it as a strong hint, not a confirmed fact.
- • The maker says so in their own published documentation.
We re-check this page when: firmware update changes behaviour; new model or generation launches; published wi-fi requirements change.
