Sky — weak wi-fi in one room
Sky: why is Wi-Fi weak in only one room?
The short answer
One weak room is a building problem, not a broadband problem. Thick stone, foil-backed insulation, chimney breasts and metal-lined plasterboard all take a bite out of the signal, and the fast band suffers most. Fixing it means getting a signal source closer to the room, not buying a stronger router.

The short answer
- One weak room is a building problem, not a broadband problem. Thick stone, foil-backed insulation, chimney breasts and metal-lined plasterboard all take a bite out of the signal, and the fast band suffers most. Fixing it means getting a signal source closer to the room, not buying a stronger router.
Is it the line or the Wi-Fi?
- Test wired next to the router
- Test in the room that struggles
- Write both numbers down with the time
Free things to try first
- Try it with the door open — If the signal jumps, the wall or door is the problem and a node in the hallway will fix it.
- Do not start with a plug-in extender — Cheap extenders make a second network and cause more problems than they solve.
Where Sky fits in
- Sky is a "Supported Wi-Fi" provider in our comparison, scoring 67/100 for the Wi-Fi support they actually give you.
- My Sky app includes a room-by-room test, so you can show them where it's weak.
- Take dated evidence with you — it changes how the call goes.
If it is not fixed
- Ask for a formal complaint reference
- Six weeks unresolved, or a deadlock letter, opens the free independent route

If you do end up spending money

- Mesh or a wired second point — only after the free fixes
- Managed Wi-Fi, where the provider owns the fix instead of you
