The Wi-Fi guarantee reality check

Sky: what's actually guaranteed?

The short answer

A minimum Wi-Fi speed in every room of the main home. The figure depends on your broadband package, and it is far below your full package speed.

Good self-service tools and a wide promise, but the guaranteed figure is low relative to modern packages.

Managed Wi-Fi score60/100

Guarantee usefulness58/100

Local support25/100

These are separate from the WiFiXpert Experience Index, which is unchanged. Checked 9 September 2026.

Level 2: Assisted Wi-Fi

App room tests, Pods and a money-back promise; the threshold depends on the plan.

  • Support can remotely check the router
  • Support can review Wi-Fi information
  • Extra mesh boxes can be posted out
  • An engineer can be booked
  • They can tell a line fault from a home Wi-Fi problem

Sky WiFi Max

What you must do first

  • Run Sky's own app tests
  • Work through Sky's troubleshooting
  • Allow the Pods to be fitted and placed as advised

What's excluded

  • Broadband faults and network outages
  • Your own routers, extenders or powerline adapters in the setup
  • Outbuildings and gardens
  • Rooms you have agreed to exclude

If it still doesn't work

Sky can send more Pods, arrange an engineer, and ultimately apply the money-back remedy in the plan terms.

The WiFiXpert view

This is primarily a minimum coverage guarantee rather than a promise that you will get your full broadband speed everywhere. On a gigabit package the guaranteed figure is a small fraction of what you pay for.

Guarantee usefulness: 58/100

Worth having, but it is a coverage promise rather than a promise of your package speed.

Sky Broadband Boost (legacy / eligible customers)

What the advert says: "Wi-Fi in every room."

For eligible Broadband Boost customers Sky describes Wi-Fi in every room at a minimum of 3 Mbps, with money back equivalent to one month's broadband subscription if it cannot be met after troubleshooting.

What you must do first

  • Complete Sky's troubleshooting
  • Use Sky's own equipment only

What's excluded

  • Third-party routers and extenders
  • Outbuildings and gardens
  • Broadband faults
  • Rooms excluded when the promise was set up

If it still doesn't work

One month's broadband subscription back. The underlying coverage problem is not necessarily solved.

The WiFiXpert view

A 3 Mbps floor is a coverage guarantee rather than a performance guarantee. It is useful as a backstop, but a room can pass it and still be unusable for video calls or a busy family evening.

Guarantee usefulness: 27/100

Very limited in practice. Treat it as a backstop, not as Wi-Fi support.

What to do about it

A guarantee compensates you if a threshold cannot be met. Managed Wi-Fi is intended to help identify and resolve the underlying problem. Before you claim either, it is worth finding out what is actually wrong.
