Works well together

We see very few problems putting a tado° smart thermostat on a Ubiquiti UniFi. Set it up on the main Wi-Fi name and it should simply stay put.

What it looks like when it goes wrong

  • Occasional drop-outs after a power cut or a router restart.

Do these, in this order

  1. 1

Restart the router, wait two minutes, then restart the gadget.

  2. 2

Check the bridge is still plugged into the new router.

  3. 3

Restart the bridge by unplugging it for 30 seconds.

Settings we'd recommend on the Ubiquiti UniFi

  • Switch on the multicast/mDNS forwarding option so speakers and cameras can be found.
  • Keep the gadget and your phone on the same network, and turn off client isolation on that network.

Good to know about this router: Very powerful, but its default settings block the background chatter that a lot of smart-home kit needs. Separate networks (VLANs) are easy to create here and are the most common cause of 'my app can't find it'.

If none of that works

  • If the gadget only ever sits in one spot, a wired connection is always the most reliable answer.
