Works, with a couple of settings to get right

Independent WiFiXpert score. No sponsorship, no shopping link, no manufacturer input.

A Sky Glass / Sky Stream does work on a Sky Broadband Hub, but a couple of the router's default settings cause most of the complaints we see. Fix those first and it settles down.

What it looks like when it goes wrong

  • Occasional drop-outs after a power cut or a router restart.

Do these, in this order

  1. 1

Restart the router, wait two minutes, then restart the gadget.

  2. 2

Run a speed test standing where the TV is, not next to the router.

  3. 3

Ask Sky for a booster — they'll usually send one when you report the room.

Settings we'd recommend on the Sky Broadband Hub

  • Turn Sky Broadband Shield off temporarily if a gadget can't finish set-up.
  • Restart the hub, then the gadget — in that order, a couple of minutes apart.

Good to know about this router: Very few settings are exposed, so there is little to change when something misbehaves. Sky Broadband Shield can block set-up pages and some device services.

If none of that works

  • Leave the provider's hub doing the broadband and add your own Wi-Fi on top of it — that gives you the settings this hub hides.
  • If the gadget only ever sits in one spot, a wired connection is always the most reliable answer.
