We see very few problems putting a Nest Learning Thermostat on a Ubiquiti UniFi. Set it up on the main Wi-Fi name and it should simply stay put.
Known issues with this pair
- • Do not put Nest Learning Thermostat on Ubiquiti UniFi's guest or IoT network — devices there are kept apart on purpose.
What it looks like when it goes wrong
- Set-up finishes, then the app immediately loses the gadget.
Do these, in this order

Put the gadget on the main Wi-Fi name and forget the guest network on your phone.

Check the Wi-Fi signal on the thermostat itself in its settings menu.

Move the router off the floor and out of the meter cupboard.
Settings we'd recommend on the Ubiquiti UniFi
- • Switch on the multicast/mDNS forwarding option so speakers and cameras can be found.
- • Keep the gadget and your phone on the same network, and turn off client isolation on that network.
Good to know about this router: Very powerful, but its default settings block the background chatter that a lot of smart-home kit needs. Separate networks (VLANs) are easy to create here and are the most common cause of 'my app can't find it'.
If none of that works
- If the gadget only ever sits in one spot, a wired connection is always the most reliable answer.
