Works, with a couple of settings to get right

Independent WiFiXpert score. No sponsorship, no shopping link, no manufacturer input.

A LG smart TV does work on a BT Smart Hub 2, but a couple of the router's default settings cause most of the complaints we see. Fix those first and it settles down.

Known issues with this pair

  • LG smart TV can struggle with today's stricter Wi-Fi security settings.

What it looks like when it goes wrong

  • The gadget says the password is wrong even though it is right.

Do these, in this order

  1. 1

Ask your provider's support to set the hub to the mixed security mode — you usually can't change it yourself.

  2. 2

Run a network cable to the TV if the router is in the same room — it beats any Wi-Fi fix.

  3. 3

Turn off the TV's 'quick start' power saving, which can drop the Wi-Fi overnight.

Settings we'd recommend on the BT Smart Hub 2

  • Turn 'Smart Setup' off in the BT app or hub manager while adding a new gadget.
  • If a slow-band-only gadget won't join, move it near the hub for set-up, then put it back.

Good to know about this router: One Wi-Fi name for both bands, which suits most smart-home kit — but the hub decides which band a device gets. Smart Setup and the parental-control filters occasionally block a device's set-up screen.

If none of that works

  • Leave the provider's hub doing the broadband and add your own Wi-Fi on top of it — that gives you the settings this hub hides.
  • If the gadget only ever sits in one spot, a wired connection is always the most reliable answer.
