Multi-Gigabit Networking
Wired ports and Wi-Fi fast enough to carry broadband above 1 Gbps.
Many full-fibre plans now go beyond 1 Gbps, but most network ports top out at 1 Gbps.
Multi-gig ports (2.5, 5 or 10 Gbps) let the router and your fastest devices use the full speed.
If your plan is under 1 Gbps, you don't need to worry about this yet.

Quick checks for your home
- • Is your plan above 1 Gbps?
- • Does your router have a 2.5 Gbps or faster port?
- • Are your cables Cat5e or better?
The technical detail
2.5GBASE-T and 5GBASE-T (IEEE 802.3bz) run on Cat5e/Cat6 over typical home distances; 10GBASE-T generally needs Cat6a.
